Donald Giles Bookmyer passed away in his home surrounded by family on Saturday, October 7th at the age of 86. Don was born in Fremont, Ohio on August 27th, 1931 to Lucille and Bernard Bookmyer.
Don graduated from Florida State University and afterwards proudly served as a First Lieutenant in the United States Air Force. He spent 58 loving years married to his wife, Bettye Jo. The two moved to Ormond Beach in 1964 where Don became branch manager for Crawford & Company Insurance Adjusters and Investigators, where he worked for 39 years. Upon retiring, he worked for the Risk Management Department of the International Speedway Corporation.
He was a long time member of the Daytona and Orlando Claims Associations, the Touchdown Club and the Cold Tailpipe Club. His interests included a passion for motorcycles, cars and automobile racing.
Among the survivors are his wife, Bettye Jo, his daughters, Debbie Lipinski and Donya Bailey and their husbands, Alan Lipinski and Tom Bailey along with three grandchildren, Angie Bailey, Alex Lipinski and Daniel Lipinski.
A memorial mass for Mr. Bookmyer will be held on Saturday October 14, 2017 at 10:30 at St. Brendans Catholic Church with Father James Queen officiating. In lieu of other remembrances the family requests donations be made to St. Judes Children's Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
