Obituary for Doyle Langford

Doyle Langford
Doyle J. Langford, Sr., age 80 was called home by our Father in Heaven on March 29, 2017, after a very courageous 10-month battle with cancer. Doyle is survived by the love of his life, Janie, with whom he enjoyed 60 plus loving and passionate years. Together they had, raised, and he is survived by all 6 children, Sam (Sandy), Dot (Ken), Rose Ann, Mike (Deb), Sheila (Rich), and Jim (Myra); they also helped to raise Jessica and Ryan (Tara); 2 of their 15 grandchildren Vanessa, Ericka (Peter), Troy (Jessica), Charley, Megan, Chris (Anna), Blaine, Adam, Andy, Abe, Brittany (Corey), Isabella, and Olivia; and have 20 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Frances (Ken). Doyle was predeceased by his parents Ruben and Rosa Lee and brothers Ed and Carl.

Doyle proudly served his country in the Korean War and was Training Sergeant of a tank division with the US Army. He returned stateside as a radio communications sergeant. He was introduced to his sweetheart Janie by his Mom sending him a photo and giving him her address so that they could write to each other.

Doyle was born in Madison County, Georgia on December 31, 1936. He was raised by his sharecropper parents in various parts of Georgia and South Carolina. Doyle and Janie lived in several different states and finally settled in the Daytona Beach, Florida area in the early 1960s and he lived out his last 50 years in Daytona Beach. He worked for the County of Volusia, Road and Bridge Division and retired at age 62. He was a very forward thinking man with many talents. He was renovating their home before it became a trend and was constantly building or doing some project that required using his hands.

Doyle was an avid car enthusiast who was a purist when it came to his Model A Ford, a former member of his local Model A Club. He raced open wheel thunder cars in the 1970s. He enjoyed watching College Football and was an NFL Patriots fan to the end; and of course, living in Daytona Beach, he was an avid NASCAR fan who at one time proudly possessed a VIP pass that was given to him by Bill France, Sr.

Doyle’s hobbies included but were not limited to gardening, reading ,fishing, racing, coin collecting, flea market trading and spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, whom he enjoyed spoiling greatly.

Doyle will be greatly missed by all who knew him and appreciated him for who he was and what he contributed to those who knew him best.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 3, 2017 at Dale Woodward Funeral Home, 167 Ridgewood Ave., Holly Hill, at 3:00pm. A visitation will be held the same day prior to the service beginning at 1:00pm. Condolences may be shared for the family at www.dalewoodwardfuneralhomes.com.
