Obituary for Pamela Swain Cruit
July 17, 1952-October 31, 2018

Following a short but heroically fought battle with cancer, Pamela Swain Cruit entered her heavenly home in the early hours of Wednesday, October 31, 2018. Surrounded by loved ones, Pam was in the care of Halifax Hospice at the time of her passing.

On July 17, 1952, Pam was born in San Francisco, CA, to Leon M., Jr., and Betty Jo (Holloway), Swain. The family relocated to Sanford, FL, in order for her father to continue service in the United States Navy while stationed at the Sanford Naval Air Station. Pam attended Southside Elementary School, Sanford Jr. High School, and Seminole High School, graduating with the class of 1970. Following graduation from high school, she furthered her education at Seminole Jr. College, and went on to become a hostess with Auto Train from 1974-1981. While employed by Auto Train, Pam met her future husband, Edwin (Butch) Cruit. Pam and Butch married in 1980, started a family, and raised their two children, Jessica and Swain, in the quaint coastal community of Ormond Beach, FL, where the family still resides. Following a brief period as a stay-at-home mom, Pam became a civil servant as an employee of the United States Postal Service, where she remained until her retirement in 2005.

A devoted wife and mother, Pam thrived on caring for her family and creating lasting memories that included lots of beach time, laughter, cooking for family gatherings, and making annual trips to a lakeside cabin in Vermont with loved ones. Family was truly the focal point of her life. Pam’s closest friends easily became extensions of her treasured family, as she shared numerous lifelong relationships with childhood schoolmates as well as Auto Train colleagues and neighbors.

Pam was predeceased by her father, Leon M. Swain, Jr. She is survived by her mother, Betty Jo Hausworth; husband of 38 years, Ed (Butch) Cruit; daughter, Jessica; son, Swain; brother, Leon Swain (Cathy Gramkow); sister, Sandra Swain; her devoted niece, Ragan McMeeking; and numerous other nieces and nephews, all of whom were deeply beloved by their Aunt Pam.

To celebrate a life well spent, family and friends are invited to gather at Win-San Club Condominiums in New Smyrna Beach (111 N. Atlantic Avenue), on Saturday, December 1, at 3:00 p.m., Pam’s favorite time of day at the beach. Pastor and lifetime friend Scott Harris will officiate. A potluck meal will follow, giving those who attend further opportunity for fellowship and shared memories of Pam. In lieu of other remembrances, please feel free to bring a favorite dish to share around the pool. You may also wish to donate to a charity that was near and dear to Pam’s heart, Literacy of Love, through www.literacyoflove.com.

Condolences to the family may be shared at www.dalewoodwardfuneralhomes.com. You may also contact Dale Woodward Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 167 Ridgewood Avenue, Holly Hill, FL 32117, phone number 386-441-1010.
