Obituary for Donna Freismuth

Donna Lucile Freismuth, 69, passed away peacefully at Coquina Center, Ormond Beach, on Saturday, October 13th, after a brief but fierce battle with cancer. Donna was born in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin on February 19, 1949 to the late Donald and Joyce (Faber) Freismuth. She moved to Daytona Beach, Florida in December 1973. She began working at Daytona International Speedway on January 17, 1974, and continued working there until her retirement on December 31, 2015. Donna was married to Alfred “Jimmy” Hupfer, who was also from Fond du Lac. They spent many wonderful years together, before his sudden passing on April 3, 2016. Donna’s passions in life were Jimmy (who she called “the world’s best husband”), Daytona International Speedway, her beloved dogs, and books (Donna was a voracious reader of all genres). She felt very fortunate that her years at DIS gave her the opportunity to meet and befriend so many wonderful people- co-workers, competitors, sponsors, reporters, and photographers- from around the world. Although she had never seen a race prior to her employment at DIS, she came to love not only racing, but the business, and everyone and everything around it. Donna is survived by her brothers Kenneth – Kenny to her- (Jennifer), Gary (Judith), and Richard, all of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin; her sister, Kathy (Randal) of Watertown, Wisconsin; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is further survived by her dearest and closest friends – Earl and Becky Toney, Ormond Beach, Florida; Nancy Schmitz, Fond du Lac, Wisconsin; Pamela Buccola, Daytona Beach, Florida; Geri McMullin, Daytona Beach, Florida; and her “Carolina girls” Sharon Post, Charlotte, North Carolina, and Denise Lyon, Denver, North Carolina. Donna was preceded in death by her beloved Jimmy and her parents. A private service is planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Halifax Hospice, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129, or to your local library.
