Obituary for Marilyn Johnston

Marilyn Joy Johnston, 89, passed away peacefully with family members by her side on October 7, 2018. Marilyn was born on November 25, 1928 in Aberdeen, Maryland. She was pre-deceased by her husband of 70 years, Clyde H. Johnston, on February 15, 2017. While living in Seattle, Washington, Marilyn met Clyde at the USO in Seattle when he was returning from the Pacific after World War II. She then moved to Daytona Beach and married Clyde on April 6, 1946 in Deland, Florida. They resided in Volusia County for the remainder of their lives. Marilyn was a devoted housewife and homemaker for many years. She worked for the Volusia County School Board from August 1963 until her retirement in January 1992. After her retirement, she assisted Clyde in the operation of his golf club business, “Clyde’s Club Craft.” She is survived by her sons, Steve (Dianne) of Port Orange and Ronald (Rebecca) of South Daytona, her grandsons, Steve (Andrea) Milledgeville, Georgia, Craig (Alexis) Marrero, Louisiana, Ryan of Ormond Beach, her granddaughter, Jenna of California, and her great grandchildren, Marshall, DeLaney, Gavin and Brennan. A memorial service for Marilyn will be held on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at First Baptist Church of Daytona Beach with Pastor Dillow officiating. Services will be held at 10:30am in Building “D” which is accessed from the church’s rear parking area off Ridgewood Avenue. Condolences may be shared online at dalewoodwardfuneralhomes.com.
