A celebration of life service for Doris Johnson, 93, of Ormond Beach, FL, will be held on Sunday, July 22, 2018 at Riverview United Methodist Church, 2253 John Anderson Dr., Ormond Beach, FL 32176, at 11:00 am with Reverend Michael Moxley officiating. Doris passed away peacefully on July 5, 2018 with all her family at her side. She was born on January 20, 1925 to George and Olga Johnson in Bryan, Texas. Doris grew up in Houston, Texas with her two brothers Billy and Warren, and sister Lyla. Doris was a professional dancer in her youth with the Kathryn Duffy Dancers. After dancing professionally for two years, she returned to Houston where she met and married Averell "Johnny" Johnson. After WW II, they moved to Crossett, Arkansas where they lived for 20 years and raised their 3 children before retiring and moving to Florida. Doris loved traveling and spending time with friends and family. She was the life of every crowd. She was actively involved with her church and was a member of the GQ chapter of the PEO. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Averell “Johnny” Johnson. She is survived by her daughter Carol Murphy and husband Peter,daughter Muriel Johnson, Brazilian exchange student daughter, Rita Crider and husband Don, and her son, Ken Johnson and wife Diane. Mrs. Johnson had three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. The family would like to express their gratitude to the Ormond in the Pines community for their love and support.
