Obituary for Ruth M Greenwood

Ruth M Greenwood
Ruth Greenwood passed away peacefully on May 29, 2018. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 7th at 11:00am at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, 216 Orange Ave., Daytona Beach, FL 32114. Calling hours will be held Wednesday, June 6th from 3:00pm-5:00pm at Dale Woodward Funeral Home, 167 Ridgewood Ave., Holly Hill, FL 32117. Born in 1931 in Berlin, New Hampshire to René and Rose Gagnon. The family moved to Portland, Maine where Ruth met her husband to be Bob Greenwood in high school. Ruth and Bob married in 1951 and moved to Daytona Beach. Ruth studied merchandising at Westbrook college, Maine and became a buyer at Ivey's department store. In 1970 she went to work for the city of Daytona Beach in Leisure Services. Ruth was a lifelong Episcopalian and was active in a variety of ministries at St. Mary’s in Daytona Beach. One closest to her heart was The Daughters of the King, for which she faithfully served as president for many years by living up to the final lines of the DOK motto: “What I ought to do, by the grace of God I will do. Lord, what will you have me do?” She was also a member of the Junior League and the Daytona Beach Museum of Arts and Sciences. Ruth was an avid reader and bridge player. She was a world-wide traveler and had been to all 50 states. Ruth met weekly with her ex-coworkers for lunch and was a member of the Wednesday Women's Group. She retired and spent her summers in her mountain home in North Carolina where she hosted many friends. Robert Greenwood, Ruth's husband, pre-deceased her as did her son Alan Greenwood. She is survived by her son Steve Greenwood who has been her caretaker, her sister Doris Salzman, nephew Brad Salzman and niece Lynn Kraus. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Mary's Episcopal Church, Junior League of Daytona Beach, or Museum of Arts and Sciences. Condolences may be shared for the family at www.dalewoodwardfuneralhomes.com.
