Daniel Walter "Danny"  Miller
Daniel Walter Miller, 54, a resident of Pahoa, Hi., passed away Jan. 15 at his home after a long battle with cancer. Danny was born March 28, 1963 in Daytona Beach to the late Judge Robert P. Miller and Emma Lee Miller of Ormond Beach. He grew up in Daytona, attended Longstreet Elementary, Seabreeze Jr., and graduated in 1981 from Spruce Creek High School where he served as Sr. Class President and was a member of the Swim Team. He attended FSU and graduated from Columbia College in Hollywood, Ca. in 1986 majoring in cinema. Danny has been directing award-winning films for 25 years and his documentaries have aired on PBS, HBO. CINEMAX and SHOWTIME. He has produced, written, and edited programs for Dreamworks, Walt Disney, Universal Studios, Castle Rock, Focus Features and the Entertainment Industry Foundation. His films include CATALINA: A TREASURE FROM THE PAST, narrated by actor Peter Graves and OPENING DOORS FROM WITHIN about the life of Eileen Caddy, one of the founders of the legendary Findhorn Foundation in Scotland. His TURTLE PLANET DOCUMENTARY was the first film to be projected to the public in HD and explored mankind's relationship to the turtle. Both films won the Best Documentary Award at the Ft. Lauderdale Film Festival. His most recent film NA KUPU MANA'OLAN: SEEDS OF HOPE had its mainland premiere at the Smithsonian Institute in 2014, was the most popular film at the Hawai'i International Film Festival and celebrated the lives of farmers and educators in Hawaii who are helping the islands to become more sustainable. At the time of his death he was directing two new Documentaries: THE VISIONARY WORLD OF PAUL LEHR and THE STORY OF KATSU GOTO. Both are in production. Locally he made two films: DAYTONA BEACH MEMORIES and ORMOND DISCOVERY. He is survived by his husband, Matthew Carter Potts of Pahoa, Hi.; his Mother, Emma Lee Miller, Ormond Beach; brother, Robert Scott Miller of Vieques Island, Puerto Rico; Sister, Ruth Ann Woodward, Holly Hill; Brother, James N. Miller, Ormond Beach; Nephews, Wyatt Dale Woodward of Daytona Beach and Wendell Woodward of Orlando, his mother in law, Lorraine Wilson Fulton and her husband, Mike Fulton of Kansas; Aunt Jean Wintz, Spokane, Wa., Aunt Rhonda Long, Ramona, Ca, and many cousins and loving friends. There was a Memorial Service for Danny in Hawaii on January 26. A Memorial Service will be held Sat., Feb. 10 at the Community United Methodist Church, 616 Harvey St., Daytona Beach at 10:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Community United Methodist Church or a charity of your choice. There will be a family service at Oakdale Cemetery in Deland at a later date.
